This beginner yoga series is designed for individuals new to yoga as well as those looking to deepen their understanding of the practice, helping them establish and enhance a strong foundation. The focus is on teaching fundamental yoga poses, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices essential for building a safe and effective yoga routine. Additionally, through vinyasa (flow yoga), this series aims to inspire participants to appreciate meditative movement, transition mindfully, and find stillness in poses while cultivating an awareness of alignment.

Participants will learn personalised alignment and techniques for each pose to help prevent injury and maximize the benefits of the practice. Strength, flexibility, balance, and overall body awareness—which can improve physical health and well-being—are just some of the advantages of incorporating yoga into daily life.

As yoga is well-known for its positive impact on mental health, this beginner yoga series also introduces mindfulness practices, such as meditation and breathing exercises, to help reduce stress and anxiety. Yoga goes beyond physical postures to include principles and philosophies that enrich the practice. By exploring these concepts, participants can develop a deeper understanding of yoga and make their practice more meaningful. To honour yoga’s ancient history and traditions, this series will include a touch of esoteric topics and references to classical yoga practices and philosophy.

The ultimate goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where individuals can learn and explore yoga while laying the groundwork for a lifelong practice.

This series is suitable for everyone—newcomers and experienced yogis alike.

What to Expect

In six 90-minute sessions, you’ll explore key aspects of yoga, including foundational poses, breathwork, and mindfulness. Each session builds upon the previous one, so if you’re new to yoga, attending the full series will provide you with a solid foundation. However, casual drop-ins are always welcome! Each class offers a balanced blend of structure and flow, ensuring a well-rounded practice in every session.

Session Highlights

  • Breath and Movement: Connect breath with movement to set the stage for a mindful practice.
  • Prana and Apana Vayu (forces of energy): Using these forces of energy helps you to build a strong, solid yet expansive quality in the yoga postures.  By exploring the connection between your body and the ground you feel more present, powerful and balanced.
  • Sthira & Sukha (Steadiness and Ease): Finding harmony between strength and resilience with release and ease for a balanced approach.
  • Balances: Challenge your stability and confidence with balancing poses that foster physical and mental resilience.
  • Backbends: These poses can be daunting. Build confidence and ensure safety in backbends by focusing on stable alignment and core engagement, helping you open your heart while increasing awareness of your spine.
