One of my favorite sources of inspiration to be the best version of myself comes from the work of Brene Brown.

In her recent newsletter, she shared the below quote which I felt spoke of the vision I was having for the upcoming Sound Bathed Yoga session this weekend.

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.” —Viktor Frankl

If you are an on-the-go, active type of person, unable to sit still, or seeking to fill every moment with something, then “having space” or “pausing for a while” will feel like a foreign state.

Pausing life for a while is the basis of meditation. Training us to be in the moment, to notice things, and take in everything that is happening. But being confronted with certain thoughts and feelings can be uncomfortable so we avoid those pauses by filling them up with an endless supply of distractions.

Research today teaches us that Pausing is where the healing takes place – physically our body can repair and rejuvenate – mentally our nervous system can rest and digest – spiritually we can lift ourselves to our highest perspective.

As the quote suggests, from a place of space is the power to choose.

There are ways to train yourself to be comfortable with allowing space in your day. Tom and I have blended a few layers together to help. A combination of Sound Therapy, Restorative Yoga, and Essential Oils are therapeutic layers working together to keep bringing your attention back to the space.

When your focus has returned you can assist in releasing stored tension from your muscles and nervous system by using:

  • The slow deep stretching removes stiffness and improve flexibility, strength, and balance.
  • The resonate sounds pulsating from cleverly crafted instruments vibrate through your body and mind. The soothing sounds help to re-tune your brain to better cope with stress by replenishing brain energy with high-frequency sounds.
  • Essential oils always inspire you to breathe in deeply. As you fall into a steady rhythm you will activate your vagus nerve. This long nerve stimulates much of your body’s resting and digestive organs and switches your brain from its sympathetic (fight, flight, or freeze response) to the parasympathetic (rest and digest) function.

Tom Schache a professional percussionist and Sound Therapist has been leading students on Sonic Journeys.

Senior Yoga Teacher Tanya Zappala will take you through yoga postures to stimulate and awaken energy to flow more freely within the 7 main chakras (energy centers) along your spine.

Together Tanya and Tom will coordinate movements and sounds for each chakra, and the room will be sprayed with essential oils designed by Perfect Potion’s specific chakra blends.

When you focus on your chakras you start to feel:

  • Grounded (base chakra),
  • More creative (sacral chakra)
  • Tap into inner strengths (solar plexus chakra)
  • Open your heart (heart chakra)
  • Let your voice express confidently (throat chakra)
  • And your spirit to feel alive and free (crown chakra).

Sounds vibrations gently shake loose stuck energy; specific poses held longer allow time for the brain receptors to release tension;  essential oils help keep a steady breath rhythm to remain calm and centered.
